ERP Integration for Medicinal Mushroom Manufacturing Operations
A growing European manufacturer specializing in mushroom-based medicinal extracts needed to overhaul its operations, which were increasingly complex due to multi-attribute product catalogs, stringent quality control standards, manual logistics handling, and accounting redundancies. The company required a unified ERP system to enhance traceability, minimize manual effort, and consolidate production, logistics, and finance workflows under a single platform.
The key challenges faced by the client are as follows:
- Poorly Managed Product Catalog: The product list lacked structure due to multiple product attributes like species, brand, texture, and pack size, leading to inefficiencies in visibility and categorization.
- Complex Manufacturing Operations: Manufacturing involved multiple work centers and strict process flows, which necessitated improved planning and enhanced traceability.
- Intensive Quality Control Requirements: Managing up to 50 test parameters across various manufacturing stages was time-consuming and prone to errors.
- Manual Courier Entry on Shipping Platforms: Shipping details had to be manually entered into the Unifaun/nShift portal, resulting in errors and delays.
- Double Data Entry in Accounting Systems: Accounting operations had to be duplicated in both Odoo and Procountor, wasting administrative effort.
Our team helped the client in the following ways:
- Attribute-Based Product Catalog Structure: Ksolves built a structured product catalog in Odoo by leveraging attributes such as Pack Size, Brand, Species, and Texture. This enabled simplified categorization, improved visibility, and efficient sales and inventory management.
- Work Center–Driven Manufacturing Flow: Odoo Manufacturing was configured to include detailed Work Center mapping within Bills of Materials. Sequenced operations reduced scheduling time and enhanced planning accuracy by mirroring real-world production flow.
- Automated, Parameter-Based Quality Control: Using Odoo Spreadsheets within the Quality module, Ksolves created product-specific templates with pre-filled parameters and acceptance criteria. These templates were linked to Manufacturing Orders, ensuring batch-wise quality tracking and automated reporting.
- Integrated Unifaun/nShift Connector for Logistics: Ksolves integrated the Unifaun connector with Odoo, enabling shipping labels to be generated within the ERP itself. Carriers such as FedEx, DB Schenker, and UPS were supported, reducing data entry time and enhancing delivery speed.
- Procountor Accounting Integration: To avoid double data entry, Ksolves developed an integration between Odoo and Procountor. Invoices, bills, credit notes, and debit notes were auto-synced, respecting the user's preference to continue using Procountor for financial operations.
Ksolves delivered a robust and flexible Odoo ERP implementation tailored to the unique demands of medicinal mushroom extract manufacturing. From attribute-based product catalogs and automated quality controls to logistics optimization and third-party accounting integration, the project demonstrated how a user-focused, modular ERP system can align with existing workflows while driving operational efficiency.
