Rebuilt WordPress into a Zero-Downtime Custom Node.js Platform
Overview

Our client provides background verification and employment screening services to enterprise clients across multiple industries, processing a high volume of verification requests and candidate records daily. As demand grew, so did the need for a digital presence that could support deeper integrations with internal verification systems, client portals, and reporting dashboards.

The existing WordPress deployment, originally built for a marketing-first use case, was never designed to carry this operational weight. Plugin conflicts, performance degradation under load, and limited integration capability had made the platform a liability rather than an asset, and leadership set out to replace it with a purpose-built platform that could grow alongside the business without accumulating the same technical debt.

Key Challenges

The existing architecture created technical bottlenecks that limited performance, integration, security, and the platform’s ability to scale.

  • Plugin-Dependent Fragility: Core functionality relied on multiple third-party plugins that often conflicted or broke after updates, making maintenance and enhancements increasingly difficult.
  • Performance Degradation Under Load: Page load times increased during traffic spikes, while the shared hosting architecture offered limited scope for horizontal scaling.
  • Limited Integration Capability: Connecting the website with internal verification workflows and client dashboards required brittle workarounds instead of clean, reliable APIs.
  • Security Exposure: The large plugin footprint expanded the attack surface and made consistent, timely security patching more difficult.
  • Poor Developer Velocity: Enhancements took longer as engineers had to work around theme constraints and plugin limitations instead of building directly.
  • No Clear Path to Scale: The architecture lacked a clear roadmap for handling future growth in traffic, integrations, and feature complexity.
Our Solution

Ksolves, an AI-first Node.js development company, treated the migration as a full replatforming effort, separating content, business logic, and presentation while rebuilding the platform on a modern JavaScript stack with scalable infrastructure.

  • Custom Node.js Application: Replaced WordPress and its plugin stack with a purpose-built Node.js application, eliminating plugin conflicts and giving the organisation full control over its business logic.
  • Decoupled REST API Layer: Built a REST API layer connecting the front end with internal verification systems and client dashboards, creating a cleaner and more maintainable integration architecture.
  • Horizontally Scalable Hosting: Re-architected hosting to scale under load, replacing the single-server setup with distributed infrastructure that maintains stable performance during traffic spikes.
  • Hardened Security Posture: Reduced the attack surface by removing third-party plugins and establishing a controlled, auditable codebase with greater visibility into security.
  • Content Migration Pipeline: Built a migration pipeline to move content, media, and metadata from WordPress to the new platform with zero data loss or content gaps.
  • CI/CD Pipeline: Introduced automated build and deployment pipelines, enabling the engineering team to ship enhancements and fixes faster and more consistently.

Impact

The platform evolved from a plugin-dependent WordPress site into a custom, scalable solution with cleaner integrations, stronger security, and faster development.

  • Page Load Times Stabilised Under Load: The new horizontally scalable infrastructure maintains stable page performance during traffic spikes, removing the limitations of shared WordPress hosting.
  • Plugin-Related Outages Eliminated: The custom application has no plugin dependencies, eliminating outages caused by plugin conflicts and routine WordPress updates.
  • Integration Effort Cut Significantly: The REST API layer enables direct integration with internal verification systems and client dashboards, replacing fragile manual workarounds.
  • Feature Delivery Accelerated: The CI/CD pipeline and custom codebase enable faster feature releases without the theme and plugin constraints of the previous platform.
  • Zero Data Loss During Full Content Migration: All legacy WordPress content, media, and metadata were migrated successfully with zero data loss, ensuring complete content continuity.

Conclusion

Ksolves transformed a plugin-dependent WordPress platform into a custom, scalable application built for enterprise verification workflows. With Node.js, React, Next.js, REST APIs, cloud-ready infrastructure, and CI/CD, the platform now delivers stronger performance, cleaner integrations, improved security, and faster feature delivery. The migration also preserved all existing content with zero data loss, providing a reliable foundation for future growth without the constraints of plugins, shared hosting, or legacy architecture.
