Pricing Audit Trail, Actor Attribution, and Version History Built From Zero for a Travel SaaS Platform
![]()
A growth-stage travel technology platform operating from Canada delivers itinerary planning, tour costing, and booking management software to travel agencies and tour operators globally. The platform manages complex costing workflows across a multi-supplier ecosystem where rates, margins, and date-range validity windows change frequently. With multiple operations team members modifying costing data simultaneously, the inability to trace the history of any given price point had created accountability gaps, pricing anomaly debugging friction, and an absence of the audit trail required for operational governance. Applying its AI-First approach, Ksolves built a structured costing data audit trail that captures every price change, date range update, and margin adjustment with full actor attribution and before/after values – making accountability instant and pricing anomaly diagnosis a matter of seconds rather than hours.
- No Version History for Costing Data: Prices, date ranges, and margin values were stored as current state only. When a value changed, the previous value was overwritten and lost - leaving no record of what the price had been, when it changed, or who changed it.
- Pricing Anomaly Debugging Required Manual Investigation: When a costing anomaly was reported, debugging required cross-referencing logs, user activity records, and memory rather than querying a versioned data store. An investigation that could take hours with no guaranteed outcome.
- No Actor Attribution on Data Changes: The data model captured current values but not the identity of the user who had modified them. Accountability for pricing decisions was impossible to establish from the data alone, creating governance gaps in a multi-user environment.
- Supplier Rate Update Traceability Missing: As suppliers updated their rates, the platform applied the new values but retained no history of the prior rate, the update timestamp, or the source of the change - making it impossible to reconcile current pricing against historical supplier commitments.
- Margin Adjustment History Unrecoverable: Operations teams adjusting margins had no visibility into the margin history for any given product, making it impossible to identify when a margin had been changed, by how much, or whether the change was intentional or erroneous.
- Compliance and Operational Governance Gap: Without a structured audit trail, the platform had no mechanism to support compliance reviews, client pricing disputes, or internal governance audits that required historical pricing evidence.
Ksolves built a versioned costing audit trail capturing every price, date range, and margin change as an immutable record with full attribution. The audit layer operates transparently - no workflow modification required. Every pricing decision is traceable to an actor, a timestamp, and a before/after delta.
- Versioned Costing Data Model: The costing data schema was extended with a version history table in PostgreSQL capturing before-value, after-value, change timestamp, actor identity, and change source (user edit, supplier update, or system calculation) for every price, date range, and margin field modification.
- Transparent Change Capture Layer: A data change capture layer intercepts all costing data writes and records a version entry automatically - no application-layer change required. Supplier rate updates, user margin adjustments, and system recalculations are all captured through the same versioning mechanism.
- Actor Attribution and Source Tagging: Every version record is tagged with the authenticated user identity or system process that initiated the change and the change source category - enabling attribution of every pricing decision to a specific person or automated process.
- Before/After Delta Queryable at Field Level: The version history is queryable at the field level - for any given price, date range, or margin value, the complete change history is retrievable as a time-ordered delta log with before/after values at each step.
- Audit Report Generation: A structured audit report layer enables operations and finance teams to generate time-bounded pricing history reports for any product, supplier, or costing parameter - supporting compliance reviews, client disputes, and internal governance audits.

- Pricing Anomaly Diagnosis From Hours to Seconds: Field-level delta query returns the complete change history for any price or margin value in seconds. Diagnosis is a lookup, not an investigation. Hours of cross-referencing logs and user activity records eliminated.
- 100% Actor Attribution Established Across All Costing Changes: Every version record carries authenticated actor identity and change source. 100% of costing data changes are now attributable to a specific user or system process - accountability established from data, not from investigation.
- Supplier Rate Change History Retained Indefinitely: Every supplier rate update is captured as a version record with prior rate, new rate, and update timestamp. Full supplier rate history queryable across the entire engagement period. Historical rate commitments no longer unrecoverable.
- Compliance and Governance Audit Capability Established From Zero: Structured audit report generation produces time-bounded pricing history for any product or parameter on demand. Compliance and dispute evidence retrieval time reduced from days of manual investigation to on-demand report generation.
“We had no way to answer the basic question – who changed this price and when. Every anomaly was an investigation. Ksolves built us a versioned audit trail that makes that question trivial. We can now pull the full history of any price in seconds and hand it to a client or an auditor on the same call.”

A growth-stage travel SaaS platform where costing data – prices, margins, date ranges was stored as current state only with no version history, no actor attribution, and no audit capability was transformed through Ksolves data engineering services. A versioned audit trail now captures every costing data change as an immutable delta record with before/after values, actor identity, change source, and timestamp. Pricing anomaly diagnosis dropped from hours to seconds. 100% of costing changes are attributed. Supplier rate history is retained indefinitely. Compliance evidence is generated on demand. The versioning architecture extends to all mutable business data; itinerary content, booking terms, and supplier agreements can be brought under the same audit framework with no architectural change.
